Picasso at the de Young

If you haven’t already planned on it, I hope you’ll be visiting the de Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park this summer to see the Picasso exhibit: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris. Our luck has it that the Musée Picasso will be closed until 2012 for extensive renovations, so we here in the bay area can enjoy paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints from every phase of the artist’s career. The exhibit begins June 11th and will run all summer until October 9, giving summer travelers to SF the chance to partake.

While you’re out to see the exhibit, make a day of it and get in the Spanish or French mindset with a tasty meal. Try Zaruela or La Folie, both in Russian Hill.

If you don’t have the time to make the trip, or can’t get enough of Picasso, I also recommend a Taschen published book covering Picasso’s work and life, simply titled Picasso. A used copy will only set you back $12 for the 740 page book.
